You know your desk typing speed. You have no idea what your thumbs do, and
your thumbs are what you actually type with — for hours a day, on a keyboard
that guesses at half your words. Every typing test online was designed for a
desk: ten fingers, a Tab key to restart, a screen wide enough to read a
paragraph ahead. Thumbs keeps what those tests got right and rebuilds the rest
around a phone.

What it does
Words per minute, measured properly. Correct characters
over five, per minute — the same standard every typing test uses, so your
number means something outside this app. Raw speed sits next to it, so you can
see exactly what accuracy is costing you.
Mistakes you can see. Correct letters darken as you type
them. Wrong ones turn red, showing the letter you should have hit
rather than the one you did — because
tells you more than a buzzer. A word you got wrong keeps its red underline
after you have moved on.
No autocorrect, on purpose. Predictive text, autocorrect
and smart punctuation are all switched off. A typing test should measure you,
not your keyboard's guesses, so there is no suggestion bar above the keys.
Delete goes back a word. Backspace on an empty word steps
into the previous one, so a word you fumbled four keys ago can still be
repaired.
A tap when you slip. Every mistake gets a short haptic
tick. Thumb typing gives you no other physical signal that a key went wrong,
and a wrong letter can otherwise go unnoticed for a whole line.
Your history, on your phone. Every test is kept, with a
personal best for each length and your average over the last ten runs.
Choose the test
Race a clock at 15, 30, 60 or 120 seconds, or type a fixed 10, 25, 50 or 100
words and see how long it takes. Turn on punctuation and the words arrive as
real sentences, with capitals, commas and full stops — the shift key is part of
typing, and most tests pretend it is not. Turn on numbers to practise the row
everybody avoids.
The four numbers
Speed — correct characters over five, per minute.
Accuracy — the share of keystrokes that were the right
key. Backspacing a mistake does not refund it: it still happened.
Raw — the same speed measure over everything you typed,
mistakes included. The gap between raw and speed is the cost of your
errors.
Consistency — how even your pace was. Two typists can
average the same speed while one holds a rhythm and the other sprints and
stalls; this is the number that tells them apart.
